Carly Furry |
My
name is Chester Kyle and I have been rafting for 20 years
with Turtle River. I have never worked for any other company
due to the family feeling that the other guides and owners
have with one another. Most of the guides that taught me
how to raft still work for Turtle or their children continue
their legacy. I have rafted rivers all over the United
States and continue to apply for permits to private boat
the classics.
I am a sixth grade teacher by occupation and have limited my commercial boating
in the last few years to accomplish other goals in the outdoor world. Last summer
I walked across the Sierra Nevadas without a trail from Fresno to Tahoe (Sierra
High Route). This summer I am going to bike across Colorado on the Colorado trail.
My main love is backcountry snowboarding. I use a splitboard to skin up the hill
in ski form; it goes back to a snowboard for the way down. I have now snowboarded
off the summit of Mount Shasta 52 times (14,162 ft). I have also summated many
of the 14,000ft. Mountains in the Sierra and in Colorado. I work for Shasta Mountain
Guides for climbing trips in the spring. I hope my love for Turtle River and
the outdoors will benefit your rafting experience. |
Carly
Furry went on her first river trip at age eight, and has
been hooked on rafting ever since. Shes run rivers throughout
California, Arizona, Oregon, Montana, and West Virginia,
and while she loves the rush of class V, she may enjoy
even more the fun of floating down a calm stretch with
a boatload of kids. Carly studied Wilderness Studies and
English at Cal State Long Beach and earned a masters degree
in writing from Pacific University in Oregon. She publishes
short stories in magazines around the country. If you end
up in her boat, you may just end up in one of her stories
as well. |

The Water has
been my life since I was born. I grew up in Santa Cruz,
CA where i spent everyday that I could body surfing in
the Ocean. Since I was a small boy my family has been on
the river. When I got older, I started to learn how to
Guide and soon became very fond of the art of Guiding White
water. I find a great joy from being on the water. This
year I took a Wilderness First Responder Course and have
been generally openeing my eyes to the exciting field
of wilderness medicine. Sometime in my near future I hope
to pursue my love of the Outdoors, along with my interest
in Psychology and possibly try to make my way in the world
as a wilderness Psyhologist. It is my joy to take people
on the water and share my love of the water with everyone
I guide. |
Self
reflective and totally bamboozled by this incredibly mysterious
and beautiful existence. His common associations are: meditator,
musician, river weeble (rat's too cliche), instructional
assistant for children with learning disabilities, and
lover of trees, wilderness, kites, solar panels, tea, books,
hot sauce, messy hair and recycling. Also, he hopes to
one day be doing pretty much the same thing he is now:) |

I have been rafting
since I was 9 years old and working as a guide for the
past 14 years. I love the out of doors and adventure sports.
I live in Santa Cruz, Ca, where I surf, ride my horses,
back pack, and head up to the mountains for some snowboarding
when it's powdery. I have spent many years in school to
attain some degrees, and yet I keep coming back to rafting.
It's just so much fun and
such a part of my life. One of my passions is sharing my
love of nature with others. I love to create the space
for people to get inspired by this beautiful
world. |
An original Turtle,
having rafted every season since the beginning of Turtle
River Rafting Co. ....
....seems I have a lifelong devotion to rafting and
skiing, having lived in Mt. Shasta since 1973.
My other
passion is music, a player of the guitar and flute.
There is nothing more rewarding than being
with first time rafters getting their first whitewater
thrills. I have never tired of that sharing of the
whitewater experience.

Mira
has been guiding for 8 years, mostly for Turtle River,
after going on yearly family trip for most of her life.
She currently lives and Santa Cruz and is studying to
be a nurse. She is an animal lover and shares her home
with a golden retriever puppy named Maggie. When she's
not busy snowboarding, jogging or hanging out on the
beach she makes metal jewelry. |
I
have grown up in Mt. Shasta and first experienced the
turtle
lifestyle in 1994. The river is the ultimate metaphor for
life and is a great teacher for me. I love being a guide
and still wonder what I'm going to be when I grow up. Spending
time skiing, fishing, surfing and rafting bring joy to
my life. I am excited to get married this September. |
